Thinking and Thanking

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts…and be thankful.”
— Colossians 3:15 (ESV)

There’s so much information available right now that could drive a normal person to craziness. And most of it isn’t good. If I dwell on it, I could easily crater. But I have been reminded that I need to balance this influx of information with truth and thankfulness. The truth is that even today, I have many things to be thankful for and there are many good things happening.

We serve a God who is close, who is good, and who wants to give us peace.

Further, many of us have more time on our hands right now. This provides us with an opportunity to spend time in thought. And whether we realize it or not, we have control over what let our thoughts dwell on. My question is, “What are you thinking about?” Are your eyes and thoughts focused on things that will make you anxious? Are your eyes and thoughts focused on the God of Peace? Are your eyes and thoughts focused on what you are missing out on, or on what you have to be thankful for right now? What if instead of worrying, you sat down and wrote a “thankful list”?

So are a few items from my list:

  1. I’m thankful to work in a place where we strive to love one another.

  2. I’m thankful for a husband who encourages me in what I do.

  3. I’m thankful for friends who check up on me.

  4. I’m thankful to be working from home right now so that I can use the time during which I am usually in the car to connect with people.

  5. I’m thankful for the people who have taught me to use technology to love others well.

  6. I’m thankful for toilet paper

What are the top five items on your thankful list?
